For an hour, my toes touched bottom no more than for a few fleeting moments and, my ego is relieved to report, I was not alone in the deep end. Repeated blank looks were the only answer to the presenter’s occasional, “Are there any questions?”

Look on the left for the “Shooters to the Line!” list of the next five events, and also at the top of the display via the “Calendar” button in the main menu.

The difference is in dealing with the inevitable “Oops!”

In a staple match, everyone puts a buck into the kitty and a single staple into the center of each target. When the line is called, the first to shoot away their target’s staple wins. It has to be completely gone.

It’s a five-day class but it takes more than one to get there and I need another day to get semi-adjusted to the local time before I teach, and then about the same coming home. So all in all, it’s a nine or ten day effort.

It seems like no matter how careful I am, 1% of it goes where it’s needed and the other 99% goes on my hands, my pants, the table, the floor – and trust me, you don’t want to simply scuff your shoe or slap at your pants to get rid of it. All that does is encourage it to spread out and dig in.
