After several intense days in front of customers, I treasure a day of flâner. That’s French for wandering with no particular aim.

They booked the four day basics plus a one day cram for DO-178B Level A certification. After three days, their tails are draggin'.

I remember the shot. It started with a good hold, in the X ring. But it was like someone then started a wrestling match as the front sight slew around in an ever widening corkscrew motion and, before I could command “Stop!” to abort the shot, it went “Bang!” into the dirt.

In my last two competitions, I noted a marked improvement in scores, presumably because I had no coffee those mornings. My hold was steadier, my X-ring time was longer and my scores were better.

Why do you have firearms?

• For meat, and
• Because not all of the natives are friendly.

Why do I have firearms?

1. On numbered roads, whether expressed in numbers or written out, the speed limit will be that road’s number. I live close to 1st Ave where the “limit” would therefore be 1 MPH. Not a speedy choice.
2. On named roads, the normal posted limit would continue to be the speed limit.
3. Choose a starting and ending point, say your home to work, or to your favorite CostCo or Sams.
4. Find the route that gets you there the quickest.

In Phoenix where N-S roads are mostly numbered, the farther out from Central (the center “zero” line), the faster you could go when traveling North or South. But since most E-W streets are named, you’d be stuck with the posted speed limit on those roads.
